Would be pretty funny since the single had yet to be released - maybe some old timers can let us know if LS was already playing it live by that summer.

I think their first album, with Freebird, was released in summer of 73. So it was out. But, I think it probably wasn't high in the "collective consciousness" of Oakland at the time. BUT, it was by July 4th of '77:
